Fourth quarter of 2025: net loss narrows sharply

SEONGNAM, South Korea, February 12, 2026 — Kakao Corp. (Kakao) has published its regulatory filing for the fourth quarter of 2025. The company narrowed its quarterly net loss to 39.3 billion won (about US$27.1 million), against a net loss of 395.2 billion won in the same period a year earlier, while both profitability and sales improved. Corporate announcements and investor materials of the company are published on the company website at https://www.kakaocorp.com/.

The key reported figures for the fourth quarter of 2025 are as follows:

The substantially smaller net loss, the sharp rise in operating profit and the record revenue together mark a broad improvement against the same quarter a year earlier.

Platform and content segments

Sales of the platform division grew 17% to 1.2 trillion won on higher advertising in the KakaoTalk messaging app. The content unit, by contrast, remained nearly unchanged at 910.6 billion won, so the quarter's growth came predominantly from the platform side of the business.

Full-year 2025: swing to a net profit

For the full year 2025, the reported figures are as follows:

The return to a full-year net profit of 525.7 billion won completes a year in which both profitability and sales improved, with operating profit up 59.1% to 732 billion won and annual sales up 2.9% to 8.09 trillion won.

Strategic partnership with Google for on-device AI

Presenting the results, Chief Executive Chung Shin-a announced a strategic partnership with Google to advance on-device AI services. "Starting with this partnership, we team up with Google Android to further advance our on-device AI services," Chung Shin-a said, adding that the company plans to explore AI services that make the most of its data assets and citing more than 45 million KakaoTalk users in a country of about 50 million people.

According to a separate release, the collaboration with Google covers the following areas:

  1. an interface for upcoming device types such as Android-powered smart glasses, enabling hands-free, verbal communication;
  2. joint work to optimize Kakao's on-device AI for Android;
  3. exploration of new AI services built on the company's data assets.

The agreement with Google follows an earlier step in the company's AI strategy: last year Kakao signed a partnership with OpenAI and gave all KakaoTalk users access to ChatGPT inside the messaging app.
